Minnesota Basketball Academy

The best youth basketball training experience in the Twin Cities.

Our Approach

We believe in the power and efficiency of group skills training. By organizing sessions for groups of 4-10 players, we ensure that each player receives focused attention from a player development coach while gaining the advantage of competing with others of comparable skill levels and experience.

Group training also allows us to simulate real-game scenarios so that players aren’t just learning individual skills but are learning how to apply those skills to the right game situation.
Group training is also more affordable than individual skills training, reducing average costs by 50-70%

Modern, Expert Coaching

Basketball has radically changed over the past decade and requires more shooting, ball handling, and footwork skills than any prior generation. The new norm for players with varsity aspirations is to work with skills trainers outside of their normal school and club/AAU practices.

Our training sessions are led by experienced player development coaches. With a deep understanding of how the modern game has evolved, our coaches equip players with the essential skills and basketball IQ needed to excel in today’s era of “pace and space” basketball.

We teach, encourage, and empower players with positive, passionate, and profanity-free coaching.

Your playing days are temporary. Your character is not.

At Minnesota Basketball Academy, we believe that basketball is more than just a sport; it’s a vehicle for lifelong character development. While your height and natural athleticism are innate, your skills, basketball IQ, and character are aspects you can control and cultivate.

We emphasize this through our unique “character moment” at the start of each session, helping players focus on what truly matters and reminding them to play for the right reasons.

Director of Player Development
Coach A.

As the son of a long-time high school basketball coach in Detroit, Michigan, I grew up as a “gym rat” immersed in the game and always in the gym. I was an all-state guard in high school and set my high school’s scoring record, earning a basketball scholarship to the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

I’ve coached boys high school and AAU basketball for over a dozen seasons (currently coaching with the Minnesota Heat). I’ve also been a skills trainer for a decade, working with players who have varsity and college basketball aspirations.

Along with coaching, I’ve been a teacher and pastor throughout my adult life. I am a seasoned teacher and professional communicator who coaches with relentless positivity and laser-focused attention to detail. Every training session is an opportunity to encourage not just skill and basketball IQ development, but character transformation.

Everything worth anything is on the other side of hard. So let’s get to work!
